Nkoba Zambogo wins Makerere Gala

Nkooba Zambogo was on Saturday last week crowned champions of the Makerere University annual Cultural Gala in a two day function at University Hall, beating other fourteen cultural, regional, district and International groups.

Zambogo bagged 640 points out of the maximum 700, 37 points ahead of last year’s champions Basoga Nseete. Lango Students Association (LASA) came third with 581 points while ADHOLA came fourth with 567 points.

Nkoba Zambogo, an Association that brings together all Luganda speaking students at Makerere University took the third position in last year’s competitions, behind Basonga and Acholi Students Association (AMSA) respectively.

This year’s Cultural Gala was organized by the Office of the Dean of Students and the University Students Guild and was under the theme, “the role of the youth in promoting and preserving culture and how this has helped to prevent the spread of the Aids scourge” and the winner was presented with a trophy and cash worth shs. 500.000

Mean while last year’s first runners up, Acholi Students Association (AMSA) were pushed to the fifth position as new entrants, the Kenyan Students scooped the thirteenth position despite doing preparation for a single day.

Speaking at the function, the Makerere University Guild president, Susan Abbo thanked the organizers and the participants for their effort in making this event a success. She assured the student fraternity that the Guild would continue supporting such events.

Others at the function were the Makerere University Guild Vice president, Mugenyi Steven, Guild Culture minister, Sarah Nakiwala and various Guild Council Representatives.
